A complete cunt.
The thing that changed me

Here is a story of what happened to me on the 25th of February 2011.  This is my way of saying thanks to my friends. I have tried not to make it a sad story but hey read it.

On a warm sunny day, I decided to go and meet my friends at Wakefeild skate park. When i arrived it felt like any other day. However this day was to change the way I view my friends.

I was there no less than an hour. Then i went over to talk to my friend. Him and someone he knew was doing 360 spins over the jump box. I had never rode this jump box before so i firts had to get use to it. (The following detail i do not remember. I am just going on what i got told).

So when there was space i went for a test run over the jump box (i was on a bmx). I took off and i went around four or five foot in the air. Then for some reason i went into a nose dive. I landed on the right hand side of my face. In total with the height of the box i fell around 10ft to flat. I apparently then got up and said i was fine and i just wanted to go home. Luckily there was a person who managed to get the crowd of people away from me. She kept me awake until them ambulance arrived.

Once the ambulance had arrived the paramedics placed me on a spinal bored. They did this because the way afraid that i may have spinal injuries. There was also a lot of blood. Once i was in the ambulance the paramedics started to talk to me. In the ambulance there was one of the bravest friends i have. He still says to this day that it is a mental scar. However back to the story, This is the only part of the journey to the hospital i remember. I said ”who is with me” when they said my friends name i did not recognize the name they had given me.

Once i had arrived at the hospital they rushed me straight into the A&E department. I do not know anything about the arrival at the hospital except it was classed as an urgent matter.

From this point on i recall the following events. I remember struggling to get free from the spinal bored. They had me strapped down because i was so fidgety and since they did not have the results from the spinal x-ray they would not let me move as it could have caused damage. Also she was trying to get my CT (brain scan) results back. After a good 15 minutes of telling the nurse to let me move she then started to cut my FAVORITE T-Shirt off. I was in shock. I was thinking to myself ”can they do this?”. Then once they had cut my T-shirt odd i was thinking to myself yet again ”please please do not cut my jeans”.  Luckily they dint. Once they had finished striping me i then focused on trying to pursued the nurse to unstrap me from the spinal bored.

She said i was not aloud to move. When she told me this i tried two methods of getting free.

At first i said i needed a wee. This did not work as she said ”ill get you a bottle”. This ruined my plan. So therefore i tried saying i need a number 2. She then replied ”I will get you a box”. This ruined my plan. So i told her that i was joking. After about an hour she rang a department asking if they had the CT scan results back.  I was shocked i did not think my injuries where that bad. I apparently had a CT scan (brain scan). This was news to me but then i heard the nurse say ”it should not take four hours to get a set of results”. When i heard this i was like ”have i really been here that long” and a friend replied ”yes”. This was news to me. i also learnt that i had bruising and bleeding to my brain. However it was not as bad as they first thought.

However once i had got the all clear, i was then moved to a wing of the hospital. This is where i stayed. I arrived on the wing at about 7-o’clock at night. I was so tired but i was not in pain through out the whole experience. Even though i was very tired i did not tell my friends to go as they made the effort to come see me. However time flew by. Before i knew it, it was half past eight and my friend went out for a cig. Unfortunately he could not get back into the hospital. He then decided to do the most idiotic thing and walk around Wakefeild till the morning. Mean while i was being woken up every three hours by a nurse to make sure that i was okay. It probably made the night worse. However i know she was only doing her job and taking care of me and i am grateful for that.

In the morning He told me what he had done. I was not happy as anything could have happened to him. However two of my friends from the day before had also come back through to see me. I was so excited to get out of the hospital. My friend even brought me a T-shirt. My other friend also gave me a cig as i was in desperate need of one.

Once my mates had arrived i was very exited to get out of hospital. However i could not leave as the nurses would not allow me to. However there was also another problem. I still had the ”Drip needle” in my arm. It genuinely felt like i was a ”junkie” with the biggest needle ever stuck in my arm. So i could not go anywhere until they had removed this. However they would not remove this until my eye drops where ready. I needed eye drops because my right eye was in very bad shape as the right hand side of my face had taken the force of the fall.

However a few hours later and much nagging at the nurse my eye drops arrived. Then the nurse took the ”Drip” out. I was free to go. My friends dad gave us a lift back to Bradford. Once i got home i had to somehow explain something that i couldn’t remember to my family. It was hard but with help from my friend i managed to tell them what happened. After about an hour of being at home i was back out. I then went to meet one of the friend that came to the hospital as he had left his bike at another friends house. So i went down to collect it with him. However once I got down there i saw my bike. It was fine however i did not even want to touch it. In stead I picked up my other friends bike so he did not have to. When my nan found out I was going to pick a bike up she called me a ”silly sausage”. This made me laugh.

Once I got to my mates house with his bike a couple of my other mates came over. When they saw me they was in shock. About an hour or two later we went out. Everyone we saw was in shock. It was weird because my right side of my face was really bad however my left hand side was untouched. Even though my injuries where only on one side of my face it still effected my self confidence. I would not look at people when i was talking to them. I would not go into shops, get on busses etc. It really did effect my life until the swelling went down. I felt like a complete idiot.

That day when i got home, I went on facebook. I was shocked. So many people had posted on my wall saying ”hope your okay” and similar things i was truly shocked to how many people knew about it. If i am perfectly honest before that day i did not think that people cared that much.

So there is the second worst day of my life. It is the second because the worst day of my life was the day my grandfather died. I don’t remember much because i was only little however that is a different story.

So there you go, I am not writing this to gain sympathy or affection off anyone. I am purely writing this because I am very grateful to all the people that helped me. I am also very thankful that I have the friends that I have. I could not have better friends. This accident changed the way that I look at my life. It made me appreciate what I have got. But yeah  thanks for reading.

P.S - Remember true friends are the only thing you cannot put a price tag on. Take care & stay strong.

Before the fall.

After the fall.
